Review: Kyo Yakinku, Glebe

Grilled meat and vegetable at Kyo Yakiniku

I made a reservation at Kyo Yakinku (73 Glebe Point Road) during their opening promotion.

Housed in a terrace, the extensive Japanese BBQ fit-out features individual table extraction hoses and is deceptively large, stretching back from the main road to a semi-enclosed dining area.

While there were some opening week service hiccups, Kyo offers something new to Glebe’s dining scene.

Vega Cafe (1/448 Boundary St) brings some much-needed culinary variety to Spring Hill, offering a plant-based Asian menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Saturday.

I am in the middle of moving so, sans fridge, I have visited Vega for lunch, dinner and coffee.

The café took over the space from a Thai restaurant, next door to the incredibly popular Creole Soul Kitchen. Before Vega’s opening, it was not unusual to see Creole tables spill over in front of the Thai, which was never busy.

Newly opened C’est Du Gâteau stands out among South Bank’s aging assortment of casual dining chains, hotel bars and ice cream.

Here’s a French patisserie run by industry veterans just a few dozen meters from one of the last remaining Doughnut Times in Brisbane.

Maybe that contrast makes the croissants taste better. Whatever the case may be, I was really impressed by my visit during opening weekend.
