Review: Badde Manors, Glebe

I stopped in at Glebe institution Badde Manors for hot drinks on a Friday morning.

The wooden cafe interior and golden oldies soundtrack playing make you feel as if you’ve stepped back in time.

Unfortunately, the drinks also tasted like they came from 1970.

Coffee and matcha impressions

My flat white had a harsh, dark taste that lacked the subtleties I like in espresso-based drinks. It was drinkable, but I couldn’t find anything worth praising.

Lucy ordered the matcha latte, which looked grim. She said it was disappointing, tasting super weak with little flavour.

I appreciated the ample bench-style seating and mix of indoor/outdoor dining. You get the sense you could rock up with a laptop or book and chill for several hours or grab a table with friends and chat.

There is a food menu. Given my experience with our drinks, I won’t be trying it.

Badde Manors verdict

While the space’s history and vibe are admirable, the drink offering is poor. There are several cafes within walking distance with comparably amazing coffee programs, including Ada’s Affair, that you should consider instead.
